Description

The combat medic is responsible for the wellbeing of the platoon, rendering medical assistance. As MEDEVAC, medics will also be part of mobile casualty retrieval and evacuation.

Role

The combat medic's role contains a detailed knowledge of first aid and triage techniques, deciding the correct amount of medical aid administered to wounded friendlies.
Correct movement of both the medic and the casualties to render aid is as important as the actual surgery.
Administering IV bags to replenish lost blood, and using epinephrine autoinjectors to wake up unconscious soldiers are abilities only certified combat medics have, making them crucial for keeping up the strength of the company.

Certification

The Combat Medic Trainee is available for everyone who wants to learn the basics of being a combat medic.
It teaches the basics of providing fist aid and proper movement, as well as correct procedure for triage and communication.
Two advanced medic courses are available after completion of the Combat Medic Trainee cert.

Equipment

Weapons

The combat medic carries an assault rifle.

Assault Rifle

Due to the weight of the medical supplies, a lighter carbine variant, like the Mk20C or MXC is usually being chosen by combat medics.

Optics

Same optic recommendations as for regular riflemen apply; a short-medium range scope like the MRCO, ACOG or a red dot sight with magnification is perfectly suitable for a combat medic.

Ammunition

Because of the medics' positioning away from the front lines, and the weight of the medical supplies, not a lot of ammunition is needed.
4-6 magazines should more than last through a regular operation, for 120-180 + 30 rounds in total.

Protective Gear

A helmet is to be worn at all times - medics have a special Combat Helmet variant sporting the red cross, making it easy to identify the combat medic on the field.
The default vest provides a good mix of low weight, high carrying capacity and protection.
For low-mobility loadouts, the Reach Heavy Vests provide significantly increased protection against bullets, but at the price of a higher weight and lower carrying capacity. It also covers the medic armband, making it harder to identify the medic.

Other Equipment

Medics should always wear the medic uniform, which includes the armband with the red cross on white ground.
Due to the large amount of supplies being carried, a backpack is part of the default loadout - a medic variant with the red cross is available.
An extra supply of bandages (15+), morphine autoinjectors (15+), epinephrine autoinjectors (15+), and blood bags (10+) should be carried at all time.

Do note that these are not an be-all and end-all when it comes to the gear - every mission has slightly different requirements, which the gear has to be adjusted to.
